Full job description
Cambridge Satchel is currently recruiting for an experienced Sewing Machinist to join our team at our Workshop in Syston Leicestershire. The hours of work for this position are Monday-Friday 7am-4pm (42½ hours per week)
The Sewing Machinist will be responsible for operating either a conventional flat machine or a cylinder arm (post) machine to stitch and assemble various leather components, ensuring consistency and quality in the stitching processes while working to a high standard. All work is carried out based on a specification sheet detailing product information and quantities required.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Operate a flat machine or post (cylinder arm) machine to stitch and assemble leather components as required.

Follow specific stitches-per-inch instructions using the correct guide and foot for each task.

Ensure even thread tension to maintain stitch consistency and prevent loosening.

Monitor and adjust machine settings to maintain quality and precision.

Inspect panels prior to stitching to ensure they meet required standards.

Check completed stitched products to ensure they meet quality expectations.

Carry out tasks accurately and efficiently, based on product spec sheets.

Work collaboratively with the production team to meet daily and weekly targets.

Maintain a clean and organised workstation at all times.

Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

Report any material or machinery defects or issues to the supervisor promptly.
Skills/Experience

Previous Experience using a Post/Cylinder Arm Machine and Flat Machine essential.

Previous experience working with Leather advantageous.

Excellent attention to detail

Must be able to maintain quality and pace.

Full product training will be provided.
