We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Safeguarding Officer to join our team on a permanent, term-time basis at Southampton College. This is a vital role focused on ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and protection of all students, particularly those who may be vulnerable or at risk.
You will play a key role in promoting a strong culture of safeguarding across the college, working collaboratively with staff, external agencies, and stakeholders to ensure best practice and full compliance with statutory safeguarding requirements.
This is a permanent, term-time position, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote a culture of safeguarding, ensuring student welfare is prioritised at all times
- Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputies in implementing safeguarding policies and procedures
- Act as a point of contact for safeguarding concerns, managing disclosures appropriately
- Assess risk and make referrals to external agencies where appropriate
- Manage safeguarding caseloads and maintain accurate, confidential records (e.g. CPOMS)
- Support students with safeguarding concerns, promoting their emotional health and wellbeing
- Monitor and support students subject to Child Protection Plans, Early Help Plans, and those who are care experienced
- Work collaboratively with curriculum teams and external partners to coordinate support for vulnerable learners
- Attend case conferences, reviews, and multi-agency meetings
- Identify safeguarding trends and potential risks within the college
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding legislation, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
About You
You will be an organised, empathetic, and resilient professional with experience in safeguarding and working with vulnerable individuals. You will be confident managing sensitive situations and working collaboratively across teams and agencies.
You will also demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Effective organisational and record-keeping abilities
